WHAT WE DO
Over the last quarter of a century, the number of charities in the U.K. has mushroomed, this includes Muslim/ Islamic charities. Many people, including the founders of Wrentham Aid Charitable Trust, have become disillusioned with many of the operating methods of these charities. Many charities have become like industrial businesses. A considerable portion of the actual donations are used for promotion and self-perpetuation and these actual amounts involved can be very large indeed.
Indeed the donations used by a charity for its own running costs can be a concern where the donations include zakāh. In order for the donor of zakāh to fulfill his or her religious obligation, all the zakāh that he or she donates must reach those eligible for zakāh in full, otherwise the duty is not discharged. If the donor is not giving his or her zakāh directly to the recipients of zakāh then it is the duty of the donor to choose a medium (i.e. any middle person, organisation or charity) which will fulfill their obligation, that is to say, will ensure that all the zakāh donated will reach those eligible to receive zakāh. So it is important to choose a charity whom you will task to distribute your zakāh very carefully, after diligent groundwork. One of our aims, at Wrentham Aid Charitable Trust, is quite simple and straight forward: to pass on the maximum amount of money donated to our charity to the poor and needy for food, shelter, education and health as well as our other charitable objects. This means that we not only pass on every penny donated to us to the deserving individuals and charitable causes but we also pass on any Gift Aid claimed to the poor and needy. In essence, this means for a UK taxpayer who donates £100 to our charity we will donate potentially up to £125 (with Gift Aid*) on his or her behalf to charitable causes. We aim to keep our administration and running costs to a minimum. So far, all administrative costs of running the charity as well as cost of all promotional material has been met by the trustees personally, and our aim is to continue to do so.
Our other main aim is to try to use the charitable donations in a strategic manner by funding sustainable development projects, relieving the burden of debt by donations and loans, supporting higher education in poor countries and alleviating medical illness. By funding sustainable development projects and supporting higher education in poor countries we hope to instill a can-do mentality in the recipients.
We aim to be as transparent as possible and, thereby, accountable to our donors. How and where we spend the charity’s money, including any enumeration made to our staff either directly or in kind, such as traveling expenses etc., will be available on this website for all registered users to view.
We have no intention of trying be the biggest; our aim is to set standards which our donors will appreciate and expect. We have put measures in place so that only legitimately earned money can be donated for our purposes. Please do not donate money to us unless the money has been legally acquired. Money acquired by dealing in impermissible activities, deception, lying, cheating, misrepresentation, acting as false witness, extortion, breach of trust is not welcome as donation to our charity.
